Dr. Simon Courtenay is a Professor in the Department of Environment and Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo and the Scientific Director of the Canadian Water Network.  He is interested in the uses that fish and other animals make of aquatic environments and how human activities affect this aquatic ecology.  One area of focus presently is the development of monitoring programs to detect impacts of particular industries and cumulative effects. The Canadian Water Network’s Canadian Watershed Research Consortium is presently supporting research in six areas across Canada to develop partnerships and monitoring programs in support of cumulative effects assessment at the watershed and regional levels.
