Looking for motivated PhD student for StrEAMS lab at Western University

PhD Position: Assessment of Temporal and Spatial Variability of Ecosystem Function in Small Streams

Motivated PhD student sought for a unique opportunity in the StrEAMS lab at Western University to conduct research on metrics of aquatic ecosystem function in streams of southern Ontario. Student project will be focused on the study of temporal and spatial variability in measures of aquatic ecosystem function, including ecosystem metabolism and decomposition, with the goal of applying this knowledge to the development of protocols for stream assessment and monitoring. Project will include a mix of field observational and experimental studies as well as controlled exposure experiments in a new state-of-the-art artificial stream facility located in London, Ontario (Thames River Experimental Streams Systems [TRESS] Centre). Student responsibilities will include designing and executing experiments and analyzing and reporting research outcomes.

Applicants are expected to have a strong background in aquatic ecology, environmental science or related discipline and interest in designing experiments and conducting field and lab work. Ability to work as part of a team is a must. The successful candidate will be based at Western University in London, Ontario. 

Required qualifications:

  • M.Sc. in Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline
  • Meet enrolment requirements of the Dept of Geography at The University of Western Ontario (http://geography.ssc.uwo.ca/grad)

Additional desired qualifications:

  • Experience conducting aquatic fieldwork
  • Experience with ArcGIS and associated software
  • Knowledge of univariate and multivariate statistical analyses
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s license

Great article! We know Western University is one of the best university for the p.s.d student and it gives a very opportunity for ecology student.
